The Disability Services Commissioner and family engagement.

Carers Victoria’s Policy Team meets regularly with the Disability Services Commissioner and his team. The Commissioner:

  • Reviews and identifies causes of complaints and suggests how they can be minimised
  • Considers ways of improving the Disability Complaints System
  • Provides training about the prevention and resolution of complaints about disability services (including conciliation processes, and
  • Conducts research into the causes of complaints and how they may be resolved.

The work of the Office of the Disability Services Commissioner includes a focus on the need for better engagement with caring families of people with a disability. This paper was presented at La Trobe University in November 2011.
