Carers Victoria to deliver new funding initiative

From 1 July 2011, Carers Victoria will deliver the Better Start for Children with Disability initiative, providing funding to parents and carers of children diagnosed with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, Fragile X syndrome, or moderate or greater hearing or vision impairments.

The initiative, funded by the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, provides funding of up to $12,000 for early intervention services, up to a maximum of $6,000 per financial year, for those who register and are assessed to be eligible.

Caroline Mulcahy, Chief Executive Officer of Carers Victoria, welcomed the initiative which will assist eligible children with a developmental disability to prepare for school and lifelong learning.
