Consultations with carers

In July the Andrews Labor Government launched the first whole of government Victorian Carer Strategy to better recognise and support Victoria’s carers. Carers Victoria played a pivotal consultancy role in the development of the Strategy which aims to improve carer recognition by health professionals and others and improve carer supports.

In addition to a strong contribution to the Strategy, Carers Victoria conducted a web-based survey to ask carers what they want from their Victorian Government in this year’s election. The feedback from over 700 carers means as an organisation we are representing carers’ rights and needs. We want a commitment on these issues from the next Victorian government 2018-2022.

There are far too many Victorian carers doing it tough, financially, socially and emotionally.

Our focus

Carers Victoria is the lead advocate for carers issues within the Victorian political sphere. Our goal is to represent the voice of all carers and lobby for bipartisan support for the Victorian Government Carer Strategy in this year’s election.

The commitment so far

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has already committed over $50 million to fund additional respite through the Support for Carers Program, and other carer supports and services if re-elected. Carers Victoria’s advocacy over the last several years has been a key influence on this outcome.

Carers Victoria bipartisan work

Carers Victoria is asking all parties in the Victorian election to make a similar commitment to Victorian carers. We’ll continue to lobby heavily and are calling on carers to do the same.

Empowering carers

Below you will find useful tools to join Carers Victoria in the election campaign:

  • A flyer highlighting commitments we want from the next Victorian government. You can use these talking points with local Members of Parliament (MP) and candidates, as well as friends and family and Carer Support Groups
  • Carer Survey Results – details on what carers said they want
  • A checklist on how you can get active and campaign with your local MP or candidates
  • A template letter which you can adapt to suit your needs and send to your local MP
Carers Victoria acknowledges the traditional owners of this land and pays respect to elders both past and present.
