SUMMARY:Celebrating the Essendon Parkinson's Support Group Carers: National Carers Week 2025
DESCRIPTION:Every six minutes someone is diagnosed with Parkinson’s\, there is no cure\, and as the condition progresses those caring for someone with Parkinson’s take on most of the household duties (cooking\, cleaning\, banking\, shopping)\, medical liaison\, as well as assistance with the activities of daily living. Care is 24/7. \nThe Essendon Parkinson’s Support Group Inc\, will host a light luncheon for our members and their Carers (spouses\, partners\, family and friends). At the Aberfeldie Church Hall 5 Price Street Essendon\, 3040.  Gifts will be provided for each Carer. \nSeveral of our members are in Aged Care or Hospital.  We plan to deliver a gift to them if they are unable to attend. \nAn Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist from Fight Parkinson’s will attend.  An invitation has been forwarded to the Aged Care Navigation Officer from Moonee Valley Council to attend as well\, she has provided ongoing support to our group over a number of years. \n

SUMMARY:Peter Mac Carers Forest Therapy: National Carers Week 2025
DESCRIPTION:Due to great success the past 2 years\, we are hosting another Forest Therapy event for our carers. \nForest Therapy\, also referred to as Shinrin-yoku (Japanese for ‘forest bathing’ or ‘immersion in the forest’) is a research-based public health practice of guided immersion in forested surroundings with the aim of promoting mental and physical health whilst relaxing and enjoying nature. \nIt involves combining nature based mindful\, sensory\, and creative exercises in an outdoor setting. The benefits include a boost to our immune systems\, better sleep\, increased vitality\, reduction in blood pressure\, better stress management and emotional regulation. \nWe will be providing transport from and back to Peter Mac on the day\, and attendees are also welcome to organise their own transport or make their own way there. \nWe will also be providing light refreshments as a picnic afterwards.
