SUMMARY:Carers Ask an Expert: Understand changes to Aged Care Services & Supports
DESCRIPTION:A FREE online Webinar for carers by Carers Victoria in partnership with Better Place Australia.Carers Ask an Expert – Supporting Carers to understand the changes to Aged Care Services and Supports\nCome along and learn more about the reform changes and how to navigate aged care.\nAbout this event\nJoin Rachael Kimber – Carers Victoria and Sacha Cahill– Better Place Australia to hear about some of the important changes to aged care and have your questions answered regarding how to navigate some of these changes. \nAs a Carers Victoria Practice Leader for Service Delivery and overseeing the respite program\, Rachael Kimber supports carers to begin accessing services through the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) while waiting for Support at Home to become available. As a Care Finder\, Sasha has helped many carers to navigate services through to the Support at Home Program. \nThrough their experiences and knowledge\, they will discuss these topics: The process of accessing Aged Care ServicesBecoming a registered supporterDifference between the Commonwealth Support Program and Support at Home ProgramWhat are the waiting times to receive an assessment and access servicesWhat does co contribution meanAccessing financial supportWho can support carers through this process. You will have the option to submit a question at the time of registration. The guest speaker will also respond to as many live questions as possible during the session. \nAbout the presenters\nSacha Cahill \nSacha has a background in Occupational Therapy (OT)\, and she has worked both in acute medical settings and in the community as an OT. She has also worked at Vision Australia\, supporting clients who are blind or have low vision. In all of these roles she observed how challenging it can be to navigate the aged care system\, and access vital supports. Sacha then worked as a co-ordinator for Veteran Home Care\, supporting veterans and their carers to access both veteran specific supports\, and also to understand My Aged Care. Sacha now works as a care finder\, and supports vulnerable and marginalized people to navigate My Aged Care. She is well versed in the changes since November 1 2025\, and has been working through various challenges relating to the change to assessments\, and the implementation of Support at Home. \nRachael Kimber \nAt Carers Victoria\, Rachael Kimber serves as the Practice Leader for Service Delivery and Innovation\, overseeing both the respite and mental health carer peer worker programs. Her experience spans a wide range of roles across government and community services\, with a particular focus on aged care. Rachael is genuinely passionate about working alongside communities\, especially carers to create services and opportunities that help people live and age well. Most recently\, she developed in partnership Carers Victoria’s group respite program for older people\, offering carers much-needed and meaningful breaks. \nWho can attend\nThis session is open to all carers and their family members who would like to know more about understanding the changes to Aged Care Services and Supports. \nLocation\nThis is an online event. A link will be provided upon registration. \nRegistration\nFree event but registration essential. Technology\nThis online event will be held as a Webinar on MS Teams. \nPlease note\nDue to the private/sensitive nature of individual situations\, the guest speaker cannot answer questions about specific cases in this forum.
