DESCRIPTION:These workshops are designed for families\, carers\, supporters and kin of people challenged by mental health and/or alcohol and other drug use. \n  \nLed by award-winning published writer Karen McKnight who has lived experience as a carer and has spent years helping individuals and groups to find their voice through writing\, these creative writing workshops will cover a range of writing styles such as freewriting\, poetry\, memoir and fiction-writing\, allowing for the development of creative self-expression\, storytelling skills and supportive peer dynamics. \n  \n**Please note this workshop consists of 4 sessions. Participants should commit to attending all 4 sessions. \n  \nWeek 1: Stream of consciousness – 14 August \nLetting go of the rules of writing through a range of intuitive\, right brain techniques. Formerly co-host of Too Peas In A Podcast\, which talked about raising children with disability. Mandy was nominated for Australian of the Year in 2021 and co-wrote The Invisible Life of Us. She is a parenting consultant\, specialising in sleep and settling. \nHazel Maynard is a trainer for Volunteering Victoria and runs public and in-house training sessions for the not-for-profit sector. She is passionate about encouraging people who are socially isolated or marginalised to volunteer\, and upholding the rights of volunteers. \nBrendan Croft from Endeavour Foundation\, which is an Inclusion Employment Australia provider\, is passionate about making a difference in the lives of people with disability and those experiencing social isolation. He is focused on helping people find meaningful work that builds confidence\, connection\, and independence. \nPhilippa Jones is a Senior Educator in Transition and Work Education and Education Support at Victoria University. DESCRIPTION:Music Boosts Wellbeing\nUpper Murray Family Care was passionate about making the UMFC Alchemy Chorus a reality. Multiple studies have demonstrated that music can support brain health and emotional wellbeing with people living with dementia. The success of the founding Canberra Alchemy Chorus has strongly informed UMFC’s approach in developing a local choir that fosters connection\, joy\, and wellbeing for participants and their carers. \nJoin the Chorus!\nUMFC have established an inclusive chorus which can be enjoyed by people living with dementia\, their carers and volunteers.
