DESCRIPTION:Food for Thought: Dinner\, Learning\, and Connection for Families and Carers of People Using Alcohol and/or Drugs \nJoin Family Drug Support during Carers Week for an evening of dinner\, practical learning and connection with other families and carers impacted by someone else’s alcohol or other drug use. \nA catered dinner is included\, followed by an interactive Stepping Forward: Setting Workable Boundaries session. \nSetting boundaries can be difficult when you care about someone using alcohol or other drugs. Families can find themselves caught between wanting to help\, trying to prevent harm\, and protecting their own wellbeing. \nDuring the session\, we will explore: Why setting boundaries can be difficult.\nHow to set realistic boundaries that protect your wellbeing.\nTips for communicating your boundaries.\nRespond when boundaries are challenged.\nMaintain connection with your person while changing how you respond to their substance use.The session is practical and designed specifically for families and carers. You can participate in discussion and reflection without any expectation to share personal details. \nYou will also have a chance to connect with other families and carers who understand the experience and learn more about the Geelong Family Drug Support Group and ongoing support available from Family Drug Support. \nThis event is for family members and carers of people using alcohol and/or other drugs. DESCRIPTION:To celebrate and acknowledge our families and carers for all they do for their care recipients\, we are hosting a 1 hour Laughing Yoga workshop\, catered lunch and an afternoon of crafts at the Grampians Connect centre in Ballarat. \nThis day has been organised in conjunction with the carers that we are currently supporting. We would like to invite new mental health and or substance use carers into the centre and look forward to celebrating and supporting their caring roles. \nTo register for this event please call 1800 962 008 or email Grampiansmhwconnect@mindaustralia.org.au to speak with a Peer Practitioner who will assist you in registering. \nThe Grampians Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect Centre is a Department of Health funded service that supports families\, carers and supporters of people with mental health and substance use challenges. Support is given from a family and carer peer support perspective. All staff who work at the Centre have family carer lived experience.  This support happens in the drop in Connect Centre\, over the phone\, in carer peer support groups and through information sessions.

This workshop will include the following: Why it is important to have an emergency care planWhat kind of emergencies to plan forWho might be able to help in an emergencyWhat key information needs to be documented in an emergency care planPractice working through an emergency care plan template.Navigating an emergency can be very daunting. During this workshop\, we will work through a plan to help you plan ahead and hopefully keep peace of mind. DESCRIPTION:You’re Invited to a Special Carers High Tea to celebrate Carers Week!About this event \nIt’s time to pause\, relax and celebrate the incredible care and support you provide everyday over a delightful High Tea\, lovely company and great conversations with other carers in our wonderful library. \nIndulge in a scrumptious high tea made especially for our local carers. This special event is our way of saying thank you for the wonderful care and support you provide to others. \nWe can’t wait to share an afternoon of connection\, appreciation and celebration with You! \nRegistration \nAttendance is free\, but registration is essential. Registrations will be closed when all places are filled. \nFollowing registration\, you will receive an email outlining instructions on where to meet and how to get checked-in on arrival. \nEligibility \nYou must be a FREE Carers Victoria member\, which is part of the registration process. \nThis event is funded by the Additional Respite Program and is only for carers residing in the Beaufort and surrounding area. \nWe look forward to seeing you there! \nPlease note If you have any accessibility and dietary requirements\, please contact Carers Victoria to discuss your needs before attending the group. \n  \nThis event is in partnership with Pyrenees Community House & Carers Victoria.

DESCRIPTION:Join Family Drug Support and the Western Metro Connect Centre for a carers week event for families and carers impacted by substance use. Food for Thought: Dinner\, Learning\, and Connection for Families and Carers of People Using Alcohol and/or Drugs \nJoin Family Drug Support during Carers Week for an evening of dinner\, practical learning and connection with other families and carers impacted by someone else’s alcohol or other drug use. \nA catered dinner is included\, followed by an interactive Stepping Forward: Setting Workable Boundaries session. \nSetting boundaries can be difficult when you care about someone using alcohol or other drugs. Families can find themselves caught between wanting to help\, trying to prevent harm\, and protecting their own wellbeing. \nDuring the session\, we will explore: Why setting boundaries can be difficult.\nHow to set realistic boundaries that protect your wellbeing.\nTips for communicating your boundaries.\nRespond when boundaries are challenged.\nMaintain connection with your person while changing how you respond to their substance use.The session is practical and designed specifically for families and carers. You can participate in discussion and reflection without any expectation to share personal details. \nYou will also have a chance to connect with other families and carers who understand the experience and learn more about the support available from Family Drug Support and the Western Metro Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect Centre. \nThis event is for family members and carers of people using alcohol and/or other drugs. Your person does not need to be in treatment\, seeking help or making changes for you to attend. \nPlaces are limited. SUMMARY:Teens and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:Teens and Beyond is a three-week online program for parents of teens with disability aged 13 and over. \nOver three online sessions\, we explore key topics for the teenage years\, including school and post-school options\, getting the right NDIS support\, behaviour support\, mental health and friendships. \nThis three-week program is for parents and carers of children with disability and helps you build practical knowledge and skills to navigate the teenage years with confidence. \nEach week covers a different topic and is led by facilitators who are parents of children with disability. Monday 12 October to Monday 26 October – 7.00 pm\nTuesday 13 October to Tuesday 27 October – 7.00 pm\nWednesday 14 October to Wednesday 28 October – 10.00 am  \nYou’ll learn about Financial support\nSchool and post-school options\nFuture planning\nWellbeing: friendships\, communication\, behaviour support and good mental healthOther families have said\nFamilies who attended these workshops said they left feeling empowered and confident to support their child’s independence. “Knowledgeable\, empathetic facilitators who shared real-life stories”\n“Practical guidance to support my child’s independence”\n“The future doesn’t have to be scary. There are real options and possibilities.”
