For Service Providers

Carers Victoria offers training to Community Care Service Providers.

This practical training will be beneficial for both paid and volunteer workers at all levels, as well as family and friends who are unpaid carers providing support to someone in their home.

The scope of the training will focus on knowledge and practical skills required to deliver services and improve outcomes for your clients, for example:

  • embedding wellness, person and family centred capacity building and restorative care approach;
  • responding to changing service delivery models and changing populations;
  • providing first response to client or workplace incidents.

Workshops can be provided online (or onsite) for a group of 10 or more.

Mind your Boundaries Online Workshop

Establish boundaries which protect you, your client and the family carer

Having clear professional boundaries protects you, your clients, family carers and your organisation.

In this workshop, we look at boundary issues which can occur when working with clients and families, discover how setting boundaries offers protection and explore strategies for managing boundaries in the workplace.

This workshop is for service providers only.

Topics include

  • Discover the benefits of working to boundaries and what can go wrong when we don’t;
  • Explore ways to protect you, your clients and their carers.

Self Care For Workers Online Workshop

Professional development for those working with clients and their families

Do you find it hard balancing work and life demands? Do you take work problems home with you?

Work through these issues with other professionals who also find it challenging.

Who should attend

This workshop is for workers providing support to clients and their families in community, aged or health care.

Topics include

  • Beliefs and habits which may be barriers to self care and finding ways to overcome these.

Support Services for Carers

Caring can be complex and challenging

One in eight people at any time provide unpaid care or support to someone in need. Carers Victoria is here to assist.

This workshop provides information about the challenges facing carers, the supports that are available to them and the role of Carers Victoria.

Who should attend

This workshop is for service providers only.

Topics include

  • The challenges facing carers;
  • Support services available to carers through the Carers Gateway and the Victorian Support for Carers Program;
  • Who provides the services across Victoria; and
  • The role of Carers Victoria.

Understanding the Carer Experience

Increase your professional understanding of carers

This workshop will increase participants’ understanding of carer demographics, the challenges they encounter and where they can refer carers for support.

Who should attend

Health and community sector workers who liaise with families and carers. This workshop is particularly relevant to those new to the role or those who are new to working with carers and families.

Topics will include

  • Facts about the carer landscape;
  • Common themes and issues;
  • Referral pathways.

Engaging with Carers

Increase your professional understanding of carers

This workshop will increase participants’ understanding of carer emotions and how to build rapport and trust

Who should attend

Health and community sector workers who liaise with families and carers. This workshop is particularly relevant to those new to the role or those who are new to working with carers and families.

Topics will include

  • Setting up a positive dynamic with the carer, incorporating the principles of carer legislation;
  • Responding to strong emotions expressed by carers;
  • Opportunity for personal reflection.
