Adua’s Story

Adua’s Story

As Adua approaches her mother Antonietta’s 87th birthday, she reflects on her caring role and the emotional strength and support she receives from her mother in turn.

As I sit here reflecting on the journey I've shared with my beloved mother, Antonietta, I'm overwhelmed by a flood of emotions. She's turning 87 this year, and her resilience in the face of numerous health challenges leaves me in awe every single day.

My name is Adua, and being visually impaired myself, life presents its own set of obstacles. But despite my limitations, I've always strived to be the best caregiver I can be for my dear mother. She's not just a mother to me; she's my rock, my confidante, my everything.

Each morning, I make my way to her house, eager to check on her well-being and provide whatever assistance she may need. Her smile, though weathered by age and pain, still lights up the room, filling my heart with warmth and love. Despite her own struggles with heart failure and arthritis, she remains the epitome of grace and strength.

Together, we navigate the challenges of daily life, our bond growing stronger with each passing day. My impaired vision makes simple tasks more difficult, but I refuse to let it hinder my ability to care for my mother. With patience and determination, I've learned to adapt, finding innovative ways to assist her in her day-to-day activities. Where there’s a will there’s a way, and I am a very persistent person – if something is difficult I always find a way to achieve the things that I set out for myself.

Our home is filled with laughter and love, despite the hardships we face. Antonietta's presence brings a sense of peace and tranquillity, her unwavering love serving as a beacon of hope in the darkest of times.

I cherish the fact that with my mother, Antonietta, I can talk about anything, knowing she listens with an open heart and is understanding.

As her birthday approaches, I'm filled with a sense of gratitude for the woman who has shaped me into the person I am today. I plan a special celebration to honour her, surrounded by family and friends who love her just as much as I do. It's a day filled with laughter, tears, and endless gratitude for the blessing of having Antonietta in our lives.

In that moment, as I look into my mother's eyes, I'm reminded of the strength and resilience that she embodies. Together, we'll continue to face life's challenges with courage and determination, our bond unbreakable, our love eternal.

For Antonietta is not just my mother – she's my guiding light, my inspiration, my everything. And as long as I have breath in my lungs, I'll do everything in my power to ensure that she's loved, cherished, and cared for, today and always.
