National Carers Week 2026

Care for a Carer

11 - 18 October 2026

Throughout National Carers Week we celebrate and recognise all of Victoria’s unpaid carers – a massive three quarters of a million people.

Carers Victoria is asking everyone in our community — from individuals to schools to organisations and government — to make time this week to Care for a Carer through sometimes small, but always powerful, actions.

Take a look at what we are doing during National Carers Week and check out some ways that you can show support too.

More than 1 in every 10 Victorians provide unpaid care and support to a family member or friend with disability, mental illness, chronic or terminal illness or an older person with care needs. Which means you definitely are, know, or will be one!

Show your support

There are so many ways that you can show your support for Victoria’s three quarters of a million carers.

  • Reach out to a carer you know. Make them feel seen and let them know how much you appreciate what they are doing. See if there’s anything you can do to make their life a little easier.
  • Host a morning tea or lunch and learn at your workplace, community group or among your friends to raise awareness.
  • Share National Carers Week resources with posters, via your newsletter and on social media. We will have resources available closer to the date.
  • Let the community know that you care by sharing what you are doing this National Carers Week on social media using the hashtags #Careforacarer #CarersVictoria #NCW26 and by tagging @Carers Victoria.

Host a carer and awareness event in the community

One of the best ways to celebrate and recognise carers is to offer social connection and respite from their caring role. If you are a Support Group (for carers or care recipients), a community group or service provider, or any organisation you might want to host an event where carers in the community can come together and feel valued.

Help raise awareness this National Carers Week by inviting workmates, friends and family to an event to raise awareness of the diversity of carers and caring roles in Victoria.

From a simple cup of coffee at a local café to a daytrip somewhere fun, a shared meal or a movie event, there are so many ways you can show carers that your group or organisation cares. You may also want to explore organising a morning tea or a lunch and learn session.

If you are looking for resources, we have posters, social media tiles and an informative self-guided presentation will be made available to download from this page.

Are you hosting and event for carers? Submit any free public events and we will add them to our events for carers page.
