Do you facilitate a carer support group as part of your paid work, and are looking for training or to enhance your existing skills?

A FREE two-session online program for Employed/Paid Facilitators of Carer Support Groups by Carers Victoria.

Our Carer Group Facilitator Training for employed/paid facilitators provides the key information and skills required to effectively run a carer support group.

The course is delivered in 2 hour blocks over a 2 week period; it is 4 hours of training in total.

Session 1 – Wednesday 22 April 2026 at 10am – 12pm.

Session 2 – Wednesday 29 April 2026 at 10am – 12pm.

Topics could include:

  • Considerations when establishing a carer support group – membership, structure, format, logistics
  • Exploring the purpose and benefits of a carer support group
  • Skills for facilitating a carer support group, including purpose statements and group agreements
  • Tuckman’s model of the lifecycle of a group
  • Active listening skills
  • Exploring group dynamics
  • Ongoing support for facilitators offered by Carers Victoria and access to a facilitator guide published by Carers Victoria.

Who should attend

Those who are new to the role of a carer support group facilitator and existing facilitators who wish to refresh and extend their knowledge and skills in this area.

About the Presenters

The course is facilitated by Angela Gigliotti and Tania Daniels – qualified educators with a strong understanding about carers and sound experience in group dynamics and facilitation skills.
